In 1942, a huge blimb base (1,000 foot long and 300 foot wide) was build in California. It was not just a home for blimbs, but the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) used it for helicopters as well.
In 1974, a film crew used the hangers to film scenes for “The Hindenburg”, a movie about the tragedy with the Zeppelin with that name. It is the first film recording, but by far the last.
In 1999, the military stoped using the two hangers, one of them might be torn down. One of the hangers was used for climatic scenes in “The X-Files”. The Syndicate was exterminated here by Aliens.
The hanger can also be seen in “JAG”, and although unconfirmed, “Mythbusters”. (if anyone can confirm this, please be kind enough to drop me a line)
