Doctor Who – Spain

A big tourist atraction and western town, Fort Bravo in Spain was very suitable for the Doctor Who crew. A town called Mercy was needed for the episode with the same name. While the crew was in Spain, not only did they use the desert location of Fort Bravo, they also traveled up into the mountains. There they shot exteriors with snow for the episode “Asylum of the Daleks”.

Volcanic Iceland is used for many Holywood Film and TV productions. Krafla is used in “Game of Thrones” for the location of the Wall, “Batman Begins”, “Interstellar” and “Oblivion” filmed here. For the production of episode VIII, the snow battle was filmed here. Also the much greener Lake Mývatn was used as a filming location, which is nearby on Iceland.

Spectre – Solden

Austria was very happy when the James Bond production choose Solden for the location of a major scene in “Spectre”. Location scouting brought the crew there for the unique building and the mountains (“Which look like a painting…”).

On the Norwegian ice fields near the town called Finse, the exterior locations for Hoth were recorded. The scene where Luke crawls through the snowstorm and has a vision of Ben Kenobi, was actualy shot from the hotel. While most of the crew was inside, Mark Hamill was performing his scene in the cold storm.
