X-Files – Long Beach – California

Image

Another “haunted” location, like Newhall Mansion, for the stars of the X-files, was “The Queen Mary“. This ship was used when Mulder and Scully went to the Bermuda trangle.

These days, the ship is a hotel in Long Beach, the crew stayed in this hotel while shooting the episode. Some of the crew members experienced creepy experiences while staying overnight on the ship….

X-Files – Piru – California

Image

Only one of the few movies and tv-shows filmed at Newhall Mansion, Piru, California is the X-Files. Mulder and Scully visit a haunted mansion. For the exteriors, Newhall Mansion was used (interiors are not filmed on location). The place is known to be … haunted…..

Newhall has been, and is, a popular site for film/tv production. “Murder, she wrote”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “The Icredible Hulk” and “Charmed” are just a few other productions which used this location.

X-Files – Tustin California – Blimb Base

Image

In 1942, a huge blimb base (1,000 foot long and 300 foot wide) was build in California. It was not just a home for blimbs, but the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) used it for helicopters as well.

In 1974, a film crew used the hangers to film scenes for “The Hindenburg”, a movie about the tragedy with the Zeppelin with that name. It is the first film recording, but by far the last.

In 1999, the military stoped using the two hangers, one of them might be torn down. One of the hangers was used for climatic scenes in “The X-Files”. The Syndicate was exterminated here by Aliens.

The hanger can also be seen in “JAG”, and although unconfirmed, “Mythbusters”. (if anyone can confirm this, please be kind enough to drop me a line)

X-Files – British Colombia – Ruskin Dam

Image

Gathering to be taken on board a UFO cannot be done in Pennsylvania, as the episode of the “X-Files” suggests, but in British Colombia. The Ruskin dam, a 1930 powerhouse, was used for recording of “Patient X” as well as “The Red and the Black” episodes.

X-Files – Coquitlam

Image

Once, an mental hospital, but closed in 2012. TV production discovered this location and it has proven to be very suitable as a hospital location for filming. It is now the most filmed site in Canada.

“The X-files” came here for many episodes, including the Pilot and throughout season 5.

Other productions include: “Elf”, “Psych”, “Battlestar Galactica”, “Once upon a time”, “The Killing”, “Fringe”, “Arrow”, “Smallville”, “Happy Gillmore” and many more….

X-Files – Vancouver – Ovaltine Cafe

Image

In season three of “The X-Files”, Mulder goes to the Ovaltine Cafe in Vancouver, Canada, but he was not alone…. or was he… anyway, he ate pie. Ans so can you, because this cafe is open for buisiness.

You might also have seen this same cafe in “Get Carter” and “I am Robot”.

X-Files – Grouse Mountain Skyride

Image

The Grouse Mountain Skyride has been used for the episodes “Duane Barry” and “Ascension” episodes of the popular TV-show, “The X-Files”.  It is open to visitors so you can feel like Mulder and Scully and ride to the stars…

X-Files – Brittania Beach

Image

In the X-Files episode “Paper Clip”, Fox Mulder is looking through loads of filing cabinets. The location used was an old copper mine. Nowadays, that site has been renovated and is the Brittania Mine Museum.

You can still recognise the location and even find the exit Fox uses.
