Marvel has found a “secret location” in the heart of New York. We have seen this in Rami’s version of Spiderman and it has also been used in Netflix’s Daredevil and later The Defenders. The Rooftop garden at the Rockefeller Center is a popular location for meetings between villains like Gao and Kingpin…. but it can also be used for weddings…
The Netflix 13 part series of “Daredevil” starts in a park in New York. The location where Wesley, the right hand man of “Kingpin” persuades a cop to help them is Abe Lebewohl Park. In fact it is one of the smalest parks in NYC named after a refugee from Ukrania (who did a lot of good for the community).
In “Fantastic Beasts..” a bank plays a prominent part in the film. It is where two main charaters meet and a lot of havoc happens.
While in the story, the bank is located in New York, the film was recorded in Liverpool. A real Bank was used (known as “The Grasshopper”). At 4 Water street, Martin’s Bank provided the location for the shoot.
Somewhat further down the road, St. George’s Hall and the Cunnard building were also used for filming.
The much talked about remake of the 1984 blockbuster “Ghostbusters” is set in New York. Most of the movie however, was filmed in Boston, since the archetecture was very similar. New York Taxis and other props were moved to Boston as well as much digital effects to sell Boston for NY.
The place where the starting Ghostbusters conduct their research is “Higgins Institute of Science“.
New Hollywood, more commonly known as New Orleans, has been the movie location for big productions like “Jurassic World“, but also “Now you see me” has been filmed partialy here.
The cafe Du Monde is where Woody Harrelson does his mind reading trick.
A bit more style can be found at the Napoleon House, which can also be seen in “JFK”. Here the horsemen make an escape.
Want to buy something weird in a store seen in the movie? Try Reverend Zombie’s House of Voodoo.
A final bar that can be seen in the film, is the one near Roosevelt Hotel, the Sazerac bar. With a hotel closeby, this might be a nice place to end your tour, although it might be a bit expensive….
Key to the movie “Jurassic World”, are the scenes on the theme parks Main Street. In fact, a real theme park was used for these scenes. Hurricane Katrina destroyed a Six Flags theme park in New Orleans (how ironic, a hurricane destroyed the original locations for Jurassic Park). The Six Flags park was never reopened, but proved to be very usefull for the movie makers.
Flat as a pancake, this location was used for the Original Star Wars. Chott el-Djerid dessert is now a military highway, but still known as “Star Wars Canyon”. Also here is the Moss Eisley overlook and the attack of the Sand People.
Mel Gibsonss son is kidnapped from the science fair at Bethesda Terrace in the movie “Ransom” (1996). Other New York locations that were used in this film include: Gibsons’s luxury pad, Fifth Ave. between 87th and 88th street, the chase takes the to 125th street throught the Holland Tunnel, the Vanderbilt Bank is a private house on 1261 Madison Ave. at 90th Street. The final gunfight is at Roberta 1252 Madison Ave.
Why not travel to a galaxy far, far away? There is one place filled with the most wretched scumm and villany on the planet, where you are able to find a captain bold enough to take you there. Mos Eisley spaceport ofcourse, filmed on the small Island of Djerba, Tunesia. The home of Obi Wan was also filmed there.
