Marvel has found a “secret location” in the heart of New York. We have seen this in Rami’s version of Spiderman and it has also been used in Netflix’s Daredevil and later The Defenders. The Rooftop garden at the Rockefeller Center is a popular location for meetings between villains like Gao and Kingpin…. but it can also be used for weddings…
The Netflix 13 part series of “Daredevil” starts in a park in New York. The location where Wesley, the right hand man of “Kingpin” persuades a cop to help them is Abe Lebewohl Park. In fact it is one of the smalest parks in NYC named after a refugee from Ukrania (who did a lot of good for the community).
For the Avengers – Age of Ultron, the movie starts in the (much used) forrest of Bourne Woods near Surrey in the UK. But the secret Hydra Research facility is much further south in Italy.
The Fort di Bard was used as the Facility.
Close to where “Agent Carter” was filmed (the Isodine Building), the crew for “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” recorded scenes for the “Todorov” building. At 2413 Firestone Blvd. scenes that took place in Belarus were recorded (S01E04). The street scenes are recorded on the Universal back lot. Even if the production had the budget to go to Zloda in Belarus, it would not have been possible… is is not a real town.
In epidode 3 (S01) of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Skye has to infiltrate a house in Malta and sabotage a project. Ofcourse the crew did not go to the real country of Malta to shoot some scenes, instead they used a location in Malibu. A private mansion at 26880 Pacific Coast Highway was used, now if you have seen the episode and the mansion looked familiar, the same location was used for “True Blood” and “I love you man”.
In the very first episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, a bar called “Ruthie’s Skillet” can be seen (Skye makes her first appearance here). A real bar was used for filming, but if it is “Ruthie’s Skillet” you are looking for, you are out of luck. The production team dressed “Spring Street Smoke House BBQ“, a bar in North-West LA to look like the bar they needed. Still, it is a location you can actualy visit. Later in season 1 (episode 20) the bar was visited again.
For the 2009 version of Sherlock Holmes (with Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr.), the crew went all over the UK to film at the most beautifull locations. While a lot was filmed in Manchester, the scenes at the dock (an explosion) and some scenes at Regent Road where they set off to see Blackwood are recorded at Liverpool. CGI was added to enhance the scene.
In 2011, “Captain America, The First Avenger” also used these docks.
Amite City in Louisiana has become a rather popular place for filmmakers to shoot a film. In 2016, Hugh Jackman played “Wolverine” for the last time in this town. Isabel’s Cafe can be seen in the film, so if you need a drink like Logan did, here’s the place to go (123 W. Oak Street).
The movie takes place from Mexico to North Dakota, but in fact it was filmed mostly in Louisiana.
The Mercedes Benz Superdome was also used after a sinkhole opened up the Streets near Harrah’s Casino (and thus they could not be used for filming).
Sicily Island High School, Ferriday Shopping Center and the Aloha Motel in Metairie are locations that were also used in the film.
Amite City can also be seen in 2012’s “On the Road” (with Kirsten Stewart) and 2 Guns (D. Washington and M. Wahlberg).
Exteriors of the smelting plant hideout were shot in New Mexico, but interiors at the Big Easy production company.
On april 25, 2015, Kathmandu was hit by a giant earthquake. A little while after this tragedy, the crew for “Doctor Strange” (2016) arrived for their film. Although major temples were damaged by the quake, they still can be seen in this movie (CGI restauration?).
One of the bridges leading to the temple of Kasthamandap can also be seen in the film.
Central Patan Durbar Square, also damaged by the earthquake, Thamel and New Road have some scenes with Cumberbatch.
Other scenes were filmed in Hong Kong, London and New York.
Home to so many movies, this small tunnel gets his own post.
Robert Zemeckis used this tunnel for the first two installments of “Back to the Future”, and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (entrance to “ToonTown”).
Before that, in 1983, John Badham featured this tunnel in “War Games” with Matthew Broderick.
More recent, 2016, Marvels Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) was chased through this tunnel by badguys in season two.
