A fortified city in the middle of the dessert, Aït-Ben-Haddou is on the UNESCO world heritage list. And even though at is a world famous monument, it has been seen in many, many films and TV productions. Recently in “Game of Thrones”, but it has also been used in : “The Jewel of the Nile”, “The Living Daylights”, “The Last Temptation of Christ”, “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Kundun”, “The Mummy (1999)”, “Gladiator (film)”, “Alexander”, “Dunya en Desie in Marokko”, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and “Babel”.
Flat as a pancake, this location was used for the Original Star Wars. Chott el-Djerid dessert is now a military highway, but still known as “Star Wars Canyon”. Also here is the Moss Eisley overlook and the attack of the Sand People.
Why not travel to a galaxy far, far away? There is one place filled with the most wretched scumm and villany on the planet, where you are able to find a captain bold enough to take you there. Mos Eisley spaceport ofcourse, filmed on the small Island of Djerba, Tunesia. The home of Obi Wan was also filmed there.
Several miles away from the hotel location used for Lars Homestead, the exteriors were filmed. This is the place where Luke watched the twin sunset.
Want to sleep at Luke Skywalkers place? Well, now you can! The location where George Lucas filmed the Original Star Wars movie, is a hotel. Many locations in the area were used for filming and some names are used in the films as well (Tatooine sounds a lot like a Tunesian town in the neigbourhood). Exteriors for Lars Homestead were filmed at Chott el Djerid.
