White tropical beaches and palm trees is not something that you might assiciate with a Star Wars movie. And that is why director Gareth Edwards choose this location for the planet of Scarif. Never before was there such a location in the Star Wars Universe. And it is very unlikely we see this location in future films… but then again, you never know…
Most scenes of Scarif were filmed in the Maldives (Laamu Gan), but some shots took place in a far less tropical location, Elstree Studios, Hertfordshire England.
Laamu Gan is not the only Island used, also Berasdhoo Island, one of the largest islands was used.
