For the BBC SciFi drama “Life on Mars” (named after the David Bowie song), the main location for filming is Manchester in the UK. Sam Tyler (John Simm) gets into an accident and finds himself waking up in the Police Force of the 1970’s under supervision from DCI Gene Hunt (Glenister). The story is set in Greater Manchester and some of the locations used are the Victoria Baths in Longsight. They are used several times throughout the show. First as the swimmingpool, later as old waterworks, a warehouse and the morgue of season two.
Sam first sees himself in 1973 in West Egerton Street. Rochdale Road and an alley near Princess Street are also used in season one. The police station is located at the end of Lacy Street (see the detailed map for exact locations) near the A6, it is Stopford House.
In season 1, St Thomas Hospital was used as the morgue (a real morgue).
Also used: WiIlliams Street (“Watch my car or I’ll stomp on your toys!”). Tiger Lounge near Cooper street is where the Casino is in season 2. Near Bond street is where Sam gets hit by a car in 2006.
