It is  hard to film an episode in a town before total destruction takes place, like in the town of Pompeii. For the “Fires of Pompeii” episode of Doctor Who, the production team went to Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, where Morlais Quarry was used for the background of this historical Italian town.
