The Last Jedi – Malin Head

In the North-West point of Ireland, subterranean caves can be found. Although they are not accessible to the public, the crew for ‘The Last Jedi’ were allowed to use the location for filming.

Around Malin Head, multiple locations were used, a walking tour is available.

The Last Jedi – Sybil Head

On one of the most beautiful locations in the World (as written by National Geographic), on the west coast of Ireland, a historic scene was created for a ‘galaxy far far away’.

The crew for ‘The Last Jedi’ had used the Island of Skellig Michael for the scenes where Luke Skywalker is found by Rey. On this Island, beehive huts can be found. These are not the actual ones used for the film, instead on the mainland of Ireland, at Sybil Head, these amazing huts were recreated.

For the disappointing sequel to “The Force Awakens”, “The Last Jedi” – Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) refuses to train Rey (the wonderful Daisy Ridley) on the Islands of Skellig Michael.

Rey has a vision in a cave, these caves are in Ireland, but not on the Island itself. Instead they are on the mainland, at Brow Head. About 8 minutes from Brow Head lies Crookhaven where the crew went for food and drinks (O’Sullivans Bar claims to have been used as a place for cast and crew to have a rest).

The Last Jedi : Butler Arms Hotel

Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley visited Ireland for “The Force Awakens” . They returned to the Irish “Wild Atlantic Way” for the 2017 movie “The Last Jedi”. One of the Hotels they stayed in while filming on the islands of Skellig Michael was the “Butler Arms Hotel“.

The location where the crew had the wrap-party was Portmagee. Food was served at the Moorings and the final party was at the Bridge Bar.

Game of Thrones – Ireland – Shanes Castle

The tournament scene for the pilot episode of “Game of Thrones” was filmed in Northern Ireland. For the location, the famous “Shane Casle Estates” were used. These estates are also known for their “red hand” legend… spooky…

In “Game of Thrones” you can find the Inn at the crossroads in Northern Ireland. The private estate that the production company used is “Redhall Estate“. you can actualy book this place for weddings… so if you are a real GoT fan and want to get married in a nice location, why not there…

In the very North of Northern Ireland, lie the Caves of Cushendun. The production team of “Game of Thrones” used this location in season two of the very popular TV-show.

Near the glens in the county of Antrim that were used for the Dothraki sea, lies Carncastle (aka Cairncastle). In the HBO series “Game of Thrones”, this castle was used as Winterfel.

The mountains above the castle are used in season one, here Ned Stark executed Will.

A mythical place by itself are the “Glens of Antrim” in Northern Ireland. 9 glens strech over an area of 80 miles. Some can be seen in the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones”. In season three, they were used as Dothraki Sea.

The National Nature Reserve “Murlough Bay“, in North Ireland is the location for Iron Island in season 3 of “”Game of Thrones”. The first three seasons of “Game of Thrones” use many different locations in the North of Ireland. Like the Glens of Antrim.
