Rogue One (Star Wars) – Iceland

Image

Iceland has become a very popular location for film and tv-productions. Recently, many scenes for “Game of Thrones” were filmed here as well as “Prometheus” and “Batman”.

But also “The Force Awakens” was filmed here (snow scenes). Rogue One does not visit Iceland for the snow, but for the rough exteriors. Jynn’s home is on the planet of Eadu, what we know as Iceland. In the south, Mýrdalssandur beach, Reynisfjara and Hafursey and Hjörleifshöfði (the haunted mountain of Iceland) mountains can be spotted in the film.

Iceland can be used as a strange planet as we have seen in “Oblivion”, “Interstellar” and “The Force Awakens“. Ripley Scott used for his opening scenes of “Prometheus”, the prequel to “Alien”. Before we see the flying saucer over this beautifull waterfall, we see arial shots of the Krossá river.

Volcanic Iceland is used for many Holywood Film and TV productions. Krafla is used in “Game of Thrones” for the location of the Wall, “Batman Begins”, “Interstellar” and “Oblivion” filmed here. For the production of episode VIII, the snow battle was filmed here. Also the much greener Lake Mývatn was used as a filming location, which is nearby on Iceland.
